Donate In-Kind

What is an ‘In-Kind’ Donation?

There are two types of material gifts that can be given to organizations like C.A.R.S.

  1. Cash/monetary donations — the transfer of funds given directly to a charitable nonprofit.
  2. An in-kind donation which is the transfer of any other type of asset.

In-kind gifts are contributions of goods or services, other than cash grants. Examples of in-kind gifts include:

  • Goods, like computers, software, furniture, and office equipment, for use by your organization or for special event auctions
  • Services, like meeting space, photocopy and mail services, and administrative/financial support
  • Expertise, like legal, tax, or business advice; marketing and website development; and strategic planning
  • Cash equivalents, like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds

What does an In-Kind donation look like?

Here are some example In-Kind donations in action:

  • Gifting a computer for use by the organization.
  • Performing a landscaping service on behalf of C.A.R.S. for a struggling family.
  • Providing tax, legal or business consultation services on behalf of C.A.R.S. to aid under-developed communities or individuals.
